Today will be forever known as the Big-Dig(out). I am not looking forward to today.

Today in history - 1996 A major blizzard paralyzed the eastern United States, claiming more than 100 lives. I remember this storm. I was in Columbia (MD) and in digging out, slipped a disk and pinched a nerve - agony for several days.

And I still think Misty could make a few bucks pimping out BigWayne and his snow-blower.

Who cares about the snow, today is a red letter day in our house. Kate has a loosf toof. For those of you that don't speak Kate, the translation is Loose Tooth. I'm not sure when kids start losing their teeth, she will be 5 in just a few weeks. But she is all about herself. We explained about the tooth fairy and she has been brushing her teeth every half hour or so to be ready. How is it possible I have a child old enough to have a loosf toof?

In other news we are so thankful to have made it through the night warm and safely. Today's tasks are to find someone to plow the drive and then dig the car out. Stay safe and warm all!

OH YEAH - today is also the SuperBowl... kind of anti-climatic after the snow storm. How miserable if you are a fan, can't get out of your drive way, got no power and neither do your neighbors - and you miss the SuperBowl. First time in many years that the #1 team from both conferences made it to the SuperBowl.

I just put a sign up on our front porch, "help wanted shoveling".

If anyone knows of anyone who can shovel us out, we desperately need it - Spouse can't do anything, and I could probably get more work out of my pugs than I could out of ElderGrand.

We still aren't plowed out, we have over 2 ft of snow on our street. We don't get help from the city since we live in a development and we have no homeowners assoc so we have to wait for the lady that owns the property to get a plow out here. So even though we can snowblow our driveway, we still can't go anywhere

YAY! The house next to us is owned by one of the head guys in maintenance at DelTech, and I remembered that they'd hired their tenants for lots of things before, so I called them and they called their tenants and they're now outside shoveling for us. I walked through the snow to our cars and sunk to over my knees.

I remember the '96 storm. It was my Senior year and we were afraid they would make us have a few more days of school - which we all planned on skipping if they did!

Then there was the ice storm of '95 - got my first kiss then. My friends and I were riding tractors to each others houses!

Hey the snow was up to my crotch so what's that tell ya!!!!! We'll get pics up on FB later.

I'd like to go out to watch the game tonight but I have a feeling we'll be right here watching it unless I can talk Woody into going out.

Found someone to dig us out -- YAY!!! Paid them a small fortune but they did a small fortune's worth of work - dug out two cars (even clearing out around them further than I'd asked), clearing a large section of our driveway behind the cars including through what the plow had pushed over to block the drive, dug out a very long wide path from the front door all the way to the back where our cars are parked, digging all the way to the grass so that Spouse can get to the car on crutches and/or air cast without walking in the snow, and the front steps and porch (we didn't ask them to do the porch, they just did it). Even though I know that we're legally required to shovel the walk in front, I didn't bother because the sidewalk will NOT be shoveled in the houses to either side of me (making my little tiny section in between them a rather moot point) plus it's got extra snow that was pushed onto it by the plow.

Spouse got ElderGrand to shovel the back steps and let me tell you, it was an Oscar winning performance. Whining, moaning, groaning, mournful looks, slumps of exaustion. We got to the point where we were stepping away from the door to crack up over her efforts to act like she'd just hurt herself, the several times she "slipped", the exaggerated panting, the hand on her back as she closed her eyes and whimpered, the quiet, near-death voice informing us that she just HAD to take a break. All this for a small 4-step landing!! I love her with all my heart, but she can be such a lazy little butthead sometimes!!!
